Give Me Some Ideas On Interior Designs

give me some ideas on interior designs

Question:

Dear Luise: Could you give me some ideas on interior designs? Do you have any interest in the subject of home interior design? I am trying to work with a very small space and nothing I have fits. I don’t have a lot of money at my disposal but I have some. I would like to see if I could make my surroundings comfortable. I lost my husband and sold our place. This is a one-bedroom condo that is less than 700 square feet. I don’t particularly like antique furniture, since I don’t know much about antiques or find them appealing…and I’m not attached to any specific manufacturer. This is not about show. Can you help me get started? Thanks, Leah

Answer:

Dear Leah: I do find the joys and challenges of interior design interesting. My first reaction to your question is admiration that you are not trying to cram your old stuff into your new place. I see a lot of that where I live, which is in a retirement center.

Times change and I often think we would do well to be willing to change with them. I know a lot of people are very sentimental about possessions. They have stories connected with each item that seem to make them precious. I have very little of that particular gene, and you, too, seem willing to let go of what no longer works for you.

So…think space. The less you put into your condo, the bigger it will look and feel. Think functionality. Start haunting furniture stores. I have a favorite one that allows me to wander to my heart’s content. They have big discounts, guarantee their pieces and have high quality copies of very costly stuff. Works for me!

Don’t be in a hurry. Start a notebook and list the things you feel you will need for every room. What can you do without? For instance, I have no dresser in my bedroom. In my closet, I have four, three-drawer, plastic units on casters for my underwear, shoes, socks, and miscellaneous items. I’ve placed two at each end of my closet with space in between for longer items to hang well. Mostly, I have short things…tops and pants. The lack of a dresser offers me the opportunity to have a computer desk and filing cabinet where the dresser would have gone.

Go over each room and think space. Consider a hide-a-bed for an occasional guest and end tables with drawers for more storage. Look at armoires for your TV and VCR. They also have drawer space. Ask to be shown under-scaled furniture if you don’t readily recognize it…a smaller dining table with drop leaves and a small buffet can make a postage stamp sized dining space look commodious.

Don’t plan on putting anything in front of a window and pick fabric patterns that have a small design and soft colors. You said “Give Me Some Ideas On Interior Designs”, so there you go. Please write again, if you want to…as your project unfolds. Blessings, Luise

Can You Give Me Some Ideas On Interior Designs?

Can you give me some ideas on interior design for a small bedroom
  • Use furniture that is size appropriate for your room. If you use furniture that is to large it will only make your room look cramped and smaller.
  • Use a lighter color of paint for a small room bedroom because this will make it feel airy and larger.
  • Organize your closet to make use of all the storage space you can squeeze out of it. For example: have shelves that go all the way to the ceiling and organizers that do not leave any space unused.
  • Have furniture items that serve as storage as well: such as a trunk at the end of the bed that can be used for storage or a place to sit down to put on your shoes.
Can You Give Me Some Ideas On Interior Designs for tall ceilings
  • Paint your ceilings a different color than white. This will make the room feel warmer and not to open and airy. I like to use about 3 shades lighter than my walls
  • Hang your pictures a little higher than you normally would. If your walls are above 9 feet then you might want to use pictures stacked two high.
  • Use larger than normal crown molding. Note: A little trick that I have learned with crown molding to make it look larger for less money is to put your crown molding up and them measure about 3 inches down the wall and paint this the same color as your crown molding. After the wall is painted the 3 inches down add a small piece of flat trim around the bottom of the ceiling paint and then it will have the illusion of being a much larger piece of crown molding.
  • Use inexpensive large wall clocks on one wall and let it be your rooms focal point.

  • Paint you child’s room a lively color or stay with a theme. This can depend on the age of the child. Yellow is one of my favorite colors because it can be used for a boy or a girl and yellow is a feel good color.Using bunk beds will create space because they go up. This is good to use when space is a problem or if you just prefer them. This set has a steps at the far end which I think is pretty neat. They are not your ordinary bunk beds. They also have storage built under the bed and at the end of the lower bunk. This room really doesn’t have to have anymore furniture because the bottom bunk can be used as a daybed/couch. Neat Hugh? I really like the colors here as well. This yellow and orange look really good together and the lime green adds a variety to the color scheme. This room could be used for boy or a girl you would just need to add different kinds of accessories to fit for what gender and what age your child is. This is another really neat set of bunk beds Sunday Funnies Loft Bunk Bed the colors of this set of bunk beds would look fine for a girl but I am not sure how most little boys would feel about the pink. However they really are very pretty and they would make a fantastic room for any child.
Can you give me some ideas on interior designs for a bathroom
  • Use plenty of lighting. As most bath rooms are smaller than the other rooms in your house and need to be kept private they will require plenty of lights. Lighting can add a thing of beauty if you choose it properly. I really like the brushed nickel . There are many finishes of lighting but I used the Brushed Nickel lighting with the three lights.

For a long time the gold tones were the most popular but over time people like to try new things and you usually see it go one way for a while and then it will revert back.

    Here is another finish of

    Oil Rubbed Bronze

Buy quality fixtures. Remember that old saying that you get what you pay for? Well that may not always be true but I believe that when it comes to bathroom fixtures this is true. The bathroom is a place that will be used a lot and a place that you sure don’t want to be having to do repairs to. When the bathroom is down for repairs no body’s happy. I suggest paying a little more and buying something that will last for a long time and serve you well. Well you spoke..give me some ideas on interior designs and I have done that on several rooms. In the next post I plan on dedicating it to the master bedroom and the master bath so please check back. Please leave a message below as I would love to hear from you and have you share your cheap home decorating ideas.
